Pink Diamond Jewelry

Pink diamond jewelry is enjoying new popularity, partly due to some celebrities tastes for these expensive diamonds. Natural pink diamonds are very rare and largely come from Argyle Diamonds in Australia.

Careful though - not all pink diamonds are naturally pink and expensive! Jewelers have developed artificial coloring methods and you’ll need to be wary of this if you’re in the market.

The beautiful ring below blends pink and white diamonds with two tone gold, a snip at just under $14k…

New Diamond Announced - 478 Carats

This month saw the discovery of a new world class diamond in Lesotho by Gem Diamonds.

The new discovery is type 11 D color, the highest grade for a white diamond and said to be “of outstanding clarity” and could potentially produce one of the largest flawless round D color polished diamonds ever. in its rough form it comes in at the 20th largest rough diamond yet. It comes from the same mine that has now been the source of four of the worlds 20 largest rough diamonds.

There won’t be a reliable estimate of value until it can be cut but it is likely to be in excess of $12m.

The UK Telegraph has an article with a pic

Diamond Earrings - Expensive Diamond Earrings!

I love these diamond earrings I found on sale at Amazon, a little more affordable than the diamonds I previously spoke about and funnily enough my favorite this time is actually the least expensive, the Tanzanite and Diamond Earrings - a snip at under $15,000.

If you’re wondering about the tanzanite, its a beautiful crystal gemstone from Tanzania in Africa, the only place it seems to occur. First discovered in the 60’s, it has a sensational blue color with a hint of purple on larger stones. Cutters say it is difficult to work with so that fact combined with its single origin makes it a very desirable stone. If you are lucky enough to own it remember its not a very hard stone so don’t use acid based cleaners or ultrasonic cleaning.

Outrageous Diamonds?

A friend sent me these images of diamond encrusted collectibles but has not told me anything about them. I’ll try to find out some more and add to this post.

The skull is by artist Damien Hirst and entitled “For the Love of God”. Valued at $100m so definitely in the expensive tastes category! It was made by Bentley and Skinner, a London silversmith and apparently over 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) of platinum and is encrusted with over 8,600 diamonds totaling some 1200 cts.

Most Expensive Diamonds

I just love looking at and marveling at ridiculously expensive things, all kinds of things from homes to hotel rooms from cars to carpets! Of course there is a certain envy of those who can afford these things but good luck to them, if you got it flaunt it.

Lets start with some diamonds shall we? Right up there in the ridiculously expensive stakes are diamonds. Did you know the biggest buyers of expensive diamonds are men and not always for their women. No these guys buy diamonds for their collections. Not surprisingly these guys are amongst the worlds wealthiest. They travel to international auctions and dealers in Africa, Australia and other countries in the hunt for perfect diamonds.

Perfection is the key here, size is not everything! Flawless diamonds are rare and very expensive, clarity and color are other key factors in a diamonds worth.

Forbes.com estimated values on several of the worlds most expensive diamonds and among them were:

The Mouawad Diamond Necklace at USD 12m contains a 70 carat stone at its center

Sotheby’s D-Grade Flawless Diamond, 108 carats at USD 16m

The Leviev Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond, 77.12 carats at USD 10m

The Graff Fancy Vivid Pink Pear Shaped Diamond at USD 10m

The Darya-ye Noor Diamond of the Iranian Crown Jewels is reported to be the largest pink diamond at about 186 carats

Or how about the monster diamonds like the “Star of Africa” at 530.2 carats on display in the Tower of London or the “Golden Jubilee” at 545.67 carats.

I’ll have two thanks!
