Worlds Most Expensive Pink Diamond?

by admin on Nov.10, 2010, under colored diamonds

UPDATE Nov 17th: London jeweller Laurence Graff paid $US46,158,674 for this and renamed it “The Graff Pink”! The record price is nearly double the $US24.3 million for the blue 35.56-carat Wittelsbach-Graff diamond bought in 2008 (also bought by Graff).

A large pink diamond to be auctioned by Sothebys nest week may fetch over $30m. This intense pink diamond weighs in at nearly 25 carats and has not been on the market for over 60 years when it was sold by a New York jeweller but has attracted plenty of interest from wealthy folk looking for an investment opportunity.

While that amount of cash would be expensive for a diamond of this size, it is thought the rarity of the emerald cut pink diamond will add to the buyer interest, particularly those looking for a safe investment while currencies fall.
